Fraserside celebrates new accessibility legislation
July 17, 2019
On July 11, 2019, the Government of Canada announced that the Accessible Canada Act has come into force. We at Fraserside are impressed by this commitment from the federal government to enable everyone to participate fully in society without barriers. We believe it is important that individuals with disabilities do not have to fight barriers to accessibility on their own. It is important that our government do this on their behalf and with their input.
Although the legislation does not apply to all sectors, we are hopeful that the Accessible Canada Act will be a complimentary force to the accessibility work already being done by many individuals and organizations across the country, including us at Fraserside. The Act aligns with our vision and efforts to work with both persons served and the greater community to increase experiences of belonging.
We are hopeful that this new legislation, which was informed by consultations with the disability community, will enhance how our communities welcome the diversity of all people.
